Thankful Thursday

  • Enough for our needs and some of our wants -- I read an article once about how to teach your kids about personal finance. The article said that when kids ask how much you make explain to younger kids that we have "enough for our needs and some of our wants". For some reason looking at it this way makes me feel very grateful. Honestly having enough for our needs is a huge gift, and getting some of our wants is truly icing on the cake.
  • Career Day -- I am so touched, honored, grateful that every single day this week when I have asked Zoey what she wants to dress up for on Career Day on Friday she has answered "A Mom".
  • Even better -- Today after school Zoey asked why I didn't volunteer to come to the school for career week. I explained that all of her friends had mom's and that her friends knew what a mom did. She said that I should come to her class and teach them how to "do it the best". I know she is biased, but she also sees me at my worst, so I am pretty happy that she thinks I'm doing ok as a mom.
  • Friends -- I have really great friends. Friends that answer my random questions, support my half thought out ideas, laugh at my attempts at humor, and love me -- split ends and all.
  • Phone calls from sister in laws -- My only sisters are in-laws and I love talking to them on the phone and texting with them. Makes my day. This weeks topics? Bangs, bacon, and Christmas socks.
  • 86 -- days til my birthday!!! Not that I'm counting or anything...

10 more things to think about:

That Zoey is just the sweetest! I'm afraid my daughters don't have the same opinion of their mom. Birthday season has hit our house. 4 of us will celebrate one in the next few months, but I'm definitely NOT counting mine down this year!

You're welcome for counting up the days for you. I may be just a touch more excited about your birthday this year than YOU!!

Love your beautiful list. It always makes me grateful to hear other's thankful thursday lists, because your feelings of gratitude often reflect my own.

Knowing as we do that mama-hood is the most important career a woman can have (if she's lucky!), how wonderful that your example is one that Zoey wants to follow. Love it!

I love the "enough for our needs and some of our wants" idea and I'm going to incorporate that into my thinking/parenting!

In other news, I think your kids are insanely adorable.

Enough is something I keep trying to teach my kids over, and over, and over. I think it's because we live in a neighborhood of plenty, but I love that thought.
